Students of the Year

2010 Students of the Year

Kim Owen

Kim is 17 years old and will be a senior at Butler High School. This will be her fourth year dancing with the Butler Kickline and her first year serving as one of the co-captains. She held an Officer position on the Kickline in 2008 and 2009. Kickline has had many accomplishments that Kim has been a part of, such as a gold medal in 2008, a gold and bronze medal in 2009, and best of all a gold medal, a bronze medal, and overall Grand Champions in 2010! The Kickline is her passion and she loves every minute of it!

Kim started dancing at about age three at Miss Leslie's School of Dance in Englewood. She has taken dance there for the past 12 years, this year being her thirteenth! She has also taken at Dance Expressions for six years now, this year being her seventh. Her dance background includes Jazz, Ballet, Pointe, Clogging, Tap, Hula, Acrobats, Lyrical, Contemporary, Hip Hop, and of course Kick! Out of all these styles, Lyrical and Jazz are her favorites. Kim was a member of the Vantasia Dance Team for three years, serving as an officer in 2007. Kim has also done solo's for the past six years now, this year being her seventh. She has been a semi-finalist at the CDP Pageant for the past four years, and hoping this year to be her fifth! She has had an amazing choreographer, Samantha Romano, and would like to thank her very much. Kim is very proud to follow in her footsteps because she is choreographing solos this season. Kim is also very proud to be paired up with Taylor Peters to choreograph the Mini Expressions Officer Line this year. Kim loves to work with the younger girls at the studio.

Other than dance, Kim participates in many clubs at school such as Spanish club, Flight Crew, Interact, and National Honor Society. Her favorite subjects in school are math and Spanish. Her other hobbies include spending time with her friends, shopping, going to the pool, and many more! Kim plans to attend some type of college after high school and is currently interested in studying Massage Therapy. She has had many accomplishments and is very honored to be the Student of the Year 2009-2010!

Katie Hausfeld

Katie just turned 12 and is going into the 6th grade at Morton Middle School, where she has been involved in Student Council, band, “Going Green,” and is on the Honor Roll. Her favorite subjects in school are art
and science.

This will be Katie’s 4th year at Dance Expressions and she is looking forward to a great year with the Mini Expressions dance team! She loves
all styles of dance, especially Hip Hop.

In addition to dance, she enjoys cheerleading, bike riding, shopping, camping, animals, art and sleepovers with her friends. Katie’s plans are to attend the University of Dayton when she gets older and become a teacher.

Grace Swarts

Grace is eight years old and will be a 4th grader at Murlin Heights Elementary School in Butler Township. Grace has been dancing for three years at Dance Expressions. She has been on Tiny Expressions for two of those years and was an officer this last year. Grace dances constantly at home with her sister, Sarah. Her favorite type of dance is Lyrical. Prior to dancing, she was in gymnastics.

In school, Grace likes math, science and art. She was a member of the Art Club, on Student Council and will be in Hand Bell Choir this year. Grace loves to do crafts, music, and building things. She absolutely loves horses and has been fascinated with them her whole life. She wants to own her own one day. She is also good with all kinds of animals; her pet rabbit is named Sugar. Her hopes and dreams are to work with horses, be a pilot, and to work at NASA.

Grace wants to thank Miss Lori and Miss Amy for always helping her and for teaching so much!!!
